In the book of Exodus God called Moses to approach Pharaoh to demand that he let his people go. During this encounter, instead of seeing that God would be with him, Moses focused on his weaknesses and insecurities. To the point that he kept insisting that he had a stutter and could not speak. He even resisted the call by saying that they would not trust his credentials or on who’s behalf he was speaking. God tried to promise him that He would be with him, and it was not enough. God even said to tell Pharaoh that “I AM sent you.” In other words, God wanted Moses to realize that God would be whoever He needs him to be and that He was greater than all that could exist on earth.
This still was not enough.
There was a specific moment in that encounter that speaks deeply to me that I think can speak to you as well. God looked at Moses and the Bible says, “So the Lord said to him, ‘What is that in your hand?’”
THAT IS DEEP
God went on to show Moses all that could happen with what was already placed in his hand. This has been word for me in this season. For most of my life I have constantly down played the grace that God has given me. And many times I won’t step out because I tend to feel like I am lacking something. But lately I have been sensing the Holy Spirit ask me, “what if you just believed?”
At some point we have to get to a place where we look in the mirror and believe that we have what it takes to do what God has called us to do. At some point we have to believe, “I got it.” Because the Lord is with us, He is able to turn whatever we have in our hands as a tool to impact many lives.
Moses did not realize that the rod that he carried, which he was familiar with using in his day to day life was all that God needed. He did not need to upgrade it. He did not need to borrow what his father in law Jethro had in his hands… His wife… Or anyone… The rod in his hands, with God’s mighty hand on it, was enough.
I ask you…
What is in your hand?
Have you been down playing what God has placed in your hands? What are you waiting for to just believe? There are lives that are waiting to be impacted through your contentment and obedience.
